Saving lives

Kowsar is growing up in the most dangerous country in the world. Children are in danger every day from preventable diseases, from war and starvation in times of drought. Without access to health care, sanitation and clean water, one in every six children dies before their fifth birthdays.

Thanks to your support, we have been working to make sure children like Kowsar have the best chance of surviving. In 2009, UNICEF trained and provided supplies for mobile health workers to reach over 2.5 million children like Kowsar with immunisation, therapeutic food and treatment for diarrhoea. This programme reaches children in hard to reach areas like displaced persons camps and areas plagued by war such as Mogadishu.

As a result we helped save the lives of an estimated 10,000 children like Kowsar.

With your help, many more children like Kowsar will survive their firth birthdays.
